Phupjane & Phupu

July 12th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

I have been in Lesotho for one year as of June 4th. Soon I will have to start planning my life post-Lesotho. I will keep ya’ll updated.

Celebrated 4th of July by having a braai with my coworkers and fellow volunteers in my district. Then a few days later some volunteers came over to my house to have a Christmas in July party. Since it is summertime during christmas here in the southern hemisphere, we celebrated again during the winter. The past weekend me and some others went to visit another volunteers site who lives pretty rural. I took a 1.5-2 hour taxi ride, hiked 20 min down to the river, crossed the river on a government owned row boat, then hike another hour through the mountains to get to his house. he can either take this route to his house or sit on a taxi for 3-6 hours while it drives through the mountains on a dirt “road.” I have a whole new appreciation for living in town.

The following proposal was made by a Mosotho man to one of my friends. Tell me if this would work on you, ladies.

“She is beautiful, but you are gorgeous. I like black label, you like black label. I like milk stout, you like milk stout. I like tobacco, you like tobacco. I don’t like the flu, you don’t like the flu. That makes a happy family!”
