Pancakes sans Syrup

This morning I woke up and realized that I have run out of oatmeal and cereal. Being the carb junkie that I am, I didn’t want to settle for eggs. I made pancakes! Only I don’t have any syrup, so I just rubbed a little bit of margarine (butter is a luxury) on top and sprinkled some sugar and cinnamon. Not a bad substitution, I think. I really need to find a place in my diet to stick some vegetables, other than potatoes.
This week I am teaching about marketing. On Thursdays I teach the panel-beating & motor mechanics students. For some reason, this is the only group that refuses to participate in my class. I try to make my lessons as interactive as possible, because otherwise they will just stare at me. The panel-beating instructor says they are shy to participate because they are scared to speak English. I really doubt that, as they won’t even answer my yes or no questions. I was so exhausted after teaching today that I came home and took an hour long nap. Other than this group, the students really seem to like my class. One of the women said “we like your class, it’s very nice.” I think “nice” is the go-to adjective in Lesotho.
I haven’t seen any big spiders since that one awful week. Then again, it has also been much cooler. I am forcing myself to have a laid back attitude about the whole thing. I still constantly search for them, but that’s more out of habit.
Some of my students are surprised to hear that I am living alone. In Lesotho, children won’t typically leave their parents house until they are married, so the house is always filled with people. They think that I must be so bored (which I usually am). This is the first time in my life that I am living alone, and I really like it. I always knew I would, I like having my own space that I can do whatever I want with. I don’t have to report to anybody when and where I am going, and I can have visitors without having to consult someone. I think it might be hard having to go back to living with a roommate.
